Waiting for the girls to get ready...

Category: By Felicity
Clubs are one of the loneliest places on earth. Men and women packed in suffocating heat, gyrating to mindless vibrations, looking for something they can take home. Some look for physical gratification, others look for a validation of self worth or attractiveness. Some just want an escape from reality, or want a moment where they can just dance to flashing lights and laugh at drunk friends.

Clubs are also such strange spaces for courtship, hosting primitive and animalistic rituals for mating. It's like watching pigeons waddle in place, displaying their feathers, trying to coax another pigeon, clearly torn between hormones and annoyance, to mate.

Some men are like vultures, watching the giggling girls in their low cut shirts and hiked up skirts, waiting for one to start spilling her drink, start slurring her speech. Gliding in at the opportune moment when her friends aren't watching and lavish her with attention. It's like picking off the weak or dying. Some spend the whole night just observing, out of fear of rejection, hope for some female attention, or because they really don't know what they're doing there, only that they don't want to spend the night alone. Other men are like dogs in heat, ready to grab on to any unsuspecting thigh or behind and start humping away, their definition of dancing.

Women struggle internally between wanting male attention and not wanting to be hounded all night. They enjoy the ego-boost when different men offer to buy the girl drinks or try to dance with her. But sometimes all they want to do is just dance.

I've gone clubbing almost every other weekend for a whole year since I moved here. I always feel sorry for the people there, always wanting, waiting. Attention or physical gratification. I often say I only go so I can exercise [as I never exercise], but the truth is I go clubbing also because I like to be reminded that even if I look stodgy and boring at work, on the weekends I'm the fun-loving, crazy girl that just wants to relax. I don't think people would be able to recognize me at work.

[edit, post clubbing]

wtf? Does lil wayne KNOW what filet mignon is? I love how misogynistic the music they play in clubs is. I had a great time, aside from 1. Dude bragging about driving drunk to the club. 2. Another dude completely drowning himself in alcohol in hopes that one of the girls will let him stay overnight to make sure he doesn't drive [What the hell?!] 3. Getting groped 4. Having to say goodbye to a friend who's leaving DC for good.

4am is 5 hours past my bedtime. I am such a shrimp :P I don't see how people can handle and enjoy such self-destructive activities, such as staying up way too late and binge drinking.

Time for a bed makeover...

Category: By Felicity
My quest for the perfect sleep has been a long, painful one. In college, our dorms provided these awful twin sized mattresses that were not only uncomfortable, you had no idea who slept on it before you did and what happened on that mattress. Also, due to my extreme intolerance for the cold, I had an extremely thick, queen-sized pink comforter to keep me warm. It was a sickly pink, with little bears on it and WARM printed hundreds of times across the entirety of the comforter. Those bears didn't lie, that comforter was very warm. During the rest of the seasons, I would sleep with my sleeping bag as a comforter. Besides being cheap, the other main reason I never got a regular comforter was because I had to change a dorm every school year, and I really didn't need anymore bedding stuff to weigh me down [esp with the giant pink blanket]. When I went to grad school, I spent a year on a 20 year-old, twin sized rag-coffin thing they called a mattress, which was provided for by the apartment. Again, me being a poor student and knowing I'd have to MOVE again within a year meant no comfy bed situation for me.

Finally, I graduated, got a job, and moved to somewhere more permanent. I moved into a clean, spacious apartment with fantastic amenities, and was prepared to buy the perfect bed. Alas, as a noob to a highly bureaucratic world of the government, little did I know how long it would take me before my first paycheck. [I didn't even get my job offer letter until I started work for like a month] For a whole month I slept on the carpeted floor on a thin sheet, my sleeping bag as my comforter. Again. I could have gotten an air mattress, but I downright refused by principle. I would not settle for an air mattress. If I was going to sleep on something, it was going to be either the best bed ever, or the floor.

Finally, after a month of excruciatingly correct but stiff sleep postures, I secured a bed [Tom provided much loving labor in hauling the metal framed, queen sized beauty to my apartment XD] Sick of my sleeping bag but unable to find a pretty bedset I really liked, I settled on an on sale set from bed bath and beyond. A few months later I bought the most amazing memory foam mattress topper ever known to man kinda. for less than $150.

There are very few experiences that can bring about the overwhelming happiness that flowed through me. Finally, my bed was complete.

Except.

The bed set. The more I looked at it, the less I liked it. The color was an odd olive and gold. While it made my room seem light, airy, and spring-ish all year long, it just wasn't me. I had envisioned a dark red or maroon, even ultra-violet bed set, something with flowers. I poured through Macy catalogues, Bed bath and beyond. Everything. Yet somehow my perfect bedset eluded me. So I dealt with it. The closest thing I ever got to one I kind of liked was one at Bed Bath and Beyond, but I thought it was still a little too airy and light for me. I held out, waiting and searching.

Last week, I found out that they were discontinuing the bedset I kind of liked, and I panicked. If this one sold out, I would be stuck with my green one forever!! I checked the BBB site frantically, and to my dismay, all the queen-sized bed sets were sold out. That afternoon I raced to the BBB at the nearest mall. No queen sized left. In fact, there were only 2 twins and 1 king left. I gritted my teeth and was about to buy the king sized one, knowing that I would buy king sized pillows to clog my bed if I had to, when the sales associate told me they could try to order a queen sized one for me and have it delivered to my apartment. But it's all sold out online, I moaned. The associate winked and told me to follow her. We went through the store to the side where the wedding registries were. She sat down infront of a computer and searched up my now beloved bed set, and lo and behold. There were queen-sized available, but hiding in different stores. A few clicks and confirmation of my shipping address, and I was having my beautiful bedset shipped to me in 2 weeks or less. I wanted to hug the lady.

Today, it arrived:

I would totally be switching my whole bed immediately, but I'm going clubbing tonight and I don't know if I'll have the energy to wash my hair, and I'm not about to get my new bed set icky before I get a chance to fully enjoy it. I'll update this post once I get my set on my bed.

I can feel the night carving... your love in my heart...

There are very few bands that I gush about. From what I recall, I only gush about 2 bands regularly: One is the Birthday Massacre, and the other is Dommin. In fact, I found about about Dommin after clicking around TBM's myspace and saw that they were opening up for TBM. A visit to their myspace kept me on their page for weeks, probably inflating their listening stats massively as I went through all their available songs again and again for hours on end. I saw them live with TBM, and was hooked.

The band sounds like a gothy Elvis; a male, less ADHD Horror Pops; or an emo Danzig. I'm not a fan of emo, but the emo-ness is much more bearable for me if the lead singer isn't some suburban prepubescent male cutting himself and crying to sleep every night cuz he thinks he's misunderstood. That's just annoying. Heart-wrenching and bittersweet lyrics, guttural vocals dripping with anguish, combined with a haunting and simple melody, and you've got a band that screams Jane Eyre meshed with the English Patient and Frankenstein (the whole "monster-only-wants-to-be-loved part", not the re-animating dead bodies part). Being a closet goth who isn't obsessed with death [contradiction? Identity crisis?], this band hit me just about as hard TBM did. This band melts the music I want to write and sing and breathes their own life into it. All the minor chords, all the chord progressions, all the catchy melodies. Their music is like mine, but from a different dimension, which is probably why I like them so much. Their simple lyrics are somehow able to grasp distrust, lust, love, and fear by the throat and consume them in a passionate, melodic embrace.

Here's the video for their newest single, My Heart Your Hands.

Dommin - My Heart Your Hands

Video's kinda eh. But hey, you can only do so much with a limited budget, and its an improvement to their first one. Their new tshirt is also kinda eh. I'm waiting for a nice one to come out before I commit $$ to a shirt I have to wear. Their CD is supposed to come out in August 2009, so I guess I'll have to find a hot topic to get that.

Can't wait to see them again if they come to Philly or DC. If I have to, I may go to NYC to watch them again.

Lip Venom V...i haz it. <3

Category: , , , By Felicity
After a good 2.5 weeks of obsessive-compulsively checking my email for a tracking number, and cursing Fedex for not delivering on weekends, my long-coveted fantasy-in-a-bottle arrived.

The venom comes encased in a metal-lidded canister, with red sparkle designs on the black cap and red lightning streaking down the main body. If you shake the canister, the venom rattles with all the free space. After you pry off the cap, nestled inside is a small vial, about the size of a AAA battery, with clear pink liquid infused with a dark, glittery, sinister red.

Now, I haven't been able to figure out exactly WHICH part represents human, and which represents vampire, if the two parts are supposed to be shaken and mixed to mingle our worlds. My gut reaction is that the dark red would be vampire, just because dark red is more sinister. But then again, humans have blood, and vampires don't... which means... I'm clearly spending too much time contemplating this.

I'm not familiar with DuWop products, but I recall seeing them in Sephora. They're known for their lip plumping products [which I haven't really had an interest in, since I have gianormous lips+overbite, and I don't think I should be accentuating them anymore] Anywho, Duwop did a pretty fantastic job of convincing me to buy this. I'm not even exactly sure how. I'm not really a Twi-hard. I though the book was mediocre. The movie meshed well with the book, and Robert Pattinson made a decent teen-idol. But somehow Duwop sold me this vial for 19.50, including a coupon code and shipping charges. And for someone who really doesn't need fuller lips, who isn't madly in love with Jacob or Edward, DuWop did something. I think it was the description. Damn I am a sucker for dramatic product descriptions!

Upon application, my lips instantly burst into flame. It's like someone rubbed cinnamon and peppermint oil and pepper spray on my lips, then set it on fire. GEEZ. Tasted like cinnamon and peppermint, except after tasting it, my tongue has lost its sense of feeling. I'm exaggerating, but it definitely has a kick to it. When you dab at your lips with the brush, it'll tickle pretty bad because of all that craziness you just applied. I find it difficult to apply evenly, and either I have too much pink or too much clear stuff. The color, though, is nice.

[The picture is from my camera phone, since my camera ran out of batteries right when I was trying to take it...] As you can see, the color is very natural, a pinkish, rosy color. And my lips are as huge as ever, even more bee stung than usual. after the clear stuff gets absorbed into your lips, you can apply more to deepen the color, and further burn off your lips. If you don't shake it, you'll get a deeper color upon first application. There's soft iridescent glitter in the dark red, which is really pretty but I haven't really been able to get alot of it on my lips. As for the tear-jerking burning, I found that it goes away after awhile, either beacuse I've just ingested it all or because I got used to it.

Definitely something I would keep in my purse when I feel like I need an upper; I think this coupled with a lip gloss would be a sexy recipe for lip MUAH-ness. This whole Edward+Bella thing doesn't have anything to do with lip gloss, but its fun to have to remind myself that regardless how old I am, I'm still a giggly HS girl at heart.

WHY the hell did I get the Prada 2 KF900 phone?!

Category: , , By Felicity

WHHHYYYYYYY.....? Its beautiful exterior and chic design is a fascade. A fascade that will haunt you while you wonder how could something be so beautiful yet so damn useless.

Lemme go through the good qualities. [Sigh]

Positives

1. So purty... People's eyes do light up when they see the shining Prada logo. It is a beautiful device, with just enough weight to make you feel like you didn't just spend a ridiculous amount of money for a worthless plastic device with wires inside. Which is what it would be if it didn't have Prada on it. In fact, had this been a regular LG phone, I would have demanded a refund and jumped ship the first week I got it. But alas in the land of reality, the devil Prada wears you.

2. The keyboard is really nice. It's much easier to use than a touchscreen keyboard, and you can make edits to the things your write much faster

3. There is an inside camera for self+friend glamour shots if you're Asian.

4. The ringtones and screensavers makes you feel like you're more artistic and fashionable than all your friends. The ringtones and sounds are catwalk-worthy, and the abstract, avante-garde screensavers are pretty fresh.

5. The inside menus have a really cool animation. They never fail to amuse me.

6. The vibrating when you touch everything is kinda cool. And you can copy and paste.

7. Camera isn't half bad.

8. It comes in a beautiful box, which, again, makes you feel better about the fact that YOU JUST BOUGHT A PIECE OF CRAP.

As you can see, I'm running out of good things to say about it. So on to the bad.

Negatives

1. Web browsing. OMFG. Not only can you not see jack squat on the screen since its too small, the screen becomes unresponsive when you try to select links. and when you try to [or accidentally] zoom in, the screen expands so you're looking at like 5 words in your entire screen. The zooming goes to extremes, making it almost impossible to use. Check movie tickets? Check the weather? Looking for restaurants? NOT with the built in web browser. To actually USE the data plan you're spending so much money on, you have to DL another web browser, like m.operamini.com, which is better, but not the best. HATE to be comparing this to the iphone, but Apple got one thing right, and their browser makes Prada 2's look like the deformed cousin locked in the basement.

2. Keeps. Bloody. Freezing. On. Me. WTF?

3. Menu options are overly confusing. There are way too many options separated in too many sections. Trying to change your settings, or actually get your internet or MMS or anything else to WORK is a bitch, esp when you're not a giant phone geek.

4. While bulkiness makes you feel like you bought something worthwhile, it gets kinda tiring to haul around. Its like as thick as a whiteboard eraser, and about has heavy as a heavy duty stapler. I'm talking about those staplers that can take down 50 page reports. If you threw the phone at someone, you could give them a bloody nose/ lip.

5. User manual is useless. Utterly, uniformly, ultimately useless.

6. Comes with a "leather" case with prada craved/ printed/ melted on the side. Why melted? Because the case, I'm pretty sure, is plastic. Smells like plastic, feels like plastic, but all the online reviews say leather. Did I get jipped of my leather case?

7. The slide out keyboard can be wobbly; makes you worry about the longevity of your phone.

8. Camera button= impossible to press down on, thanks to the way the slide out keyboard is right next to it.

9. Everytime you type in a web address, you have to go through this really dumb process of selecting the screen, keying it, and selecting the screen again. WHY all the trouble? geesh.

10. When you enter in your password and you screw up, and you can't delete it, you have to jump to the previous screen and then come back to retype. The hell?

11. Youtube only works on Wifi, not data. [aggravation]

12. Since its an "International" Phone, getting the advanced settings to work is a bitch. And by advanced, I mean basic things like going online, sending MMSes, etc. If I haven't made this clear, LG customer service is useless.

13. Reception is pretty bad. Then again, I have Tmobile, so it might be a tmobile thing.

I'll be sure to add to this list as I fume over my annoying, overpriced, but oh so beautiful phone...

How to set up Gmail on LG Prada 2 KF900 for T-Mobile

Category: , , , By Felicity
After angry screaming matches over the phone with the LG customer support (omg, I hate LG now, never buy their phones) And T-Mobile trying to be nice and helpful but ultimately failing, I trial and errorred my way into having gmail right from the messaging section, rather than having to go to gmail through your web browser. One of the pros of having gmail right under messages is you can take a picture and email it from your gmail, rather than MMS.

Once you follow the instructions below, you should be able to access your email. Bad news is, they'll import your most ancient email ever known to mankind, and they will only store like 300 of those emails. If you want your most recent emails.... youre prob gonna have to go through and delete all the old ones from the phone until it hits the new ones. If someone knows how to solve this problem, please comment!!
I got a separate gmail just so I could email pictures, so I didn't have problems with ancient email cluttering my inbox. You can always check your email through the horrible web browser and go to m.gmail.com . The Prob with m.gmail.com is that you can't send attachments, and your mailbox on the Prada phone can.

1. Go to Messaging -->Settings--> Mailbox --> Email Accounts--> Add Account

2. Select Advanced Settings (the lil triangle on the bottom)

To set up your phone data internet for Tmobile.....
I went to http://tmobileuspublic.wdsglobal.com/ and used the settings for the KE850. Yes, Prada 2's older sister. It worked for me. Please note, none of the other wireless configurations worked for me (MMS, Email) so just use this for the data plan. If the KE900 settings don't work, try the KF750. If those still don't work, Tmobile is MUCH more helpful than LG, even though they don't have any info on the KF900. LG will just spout how its a network problem, and how international phones aren't meant to be used in the states. BULL. They're call INTERNATIONAL phones, not friggin Europe-and-Asia-and-Everywhere-else-EXCEPT-the-US-phones.

Oh... My long list of Prada 2 phone grievances...

How to set up MMS for T-mobile on the LG Prada 2 phone. KF900

Category: , , , By Felicity

Because I had the worst time trying to figure this out, and was on the phone with T-Mobile for the LONGEST time, and FINALLY got it to work, I'm sharing this online. I've looked, and google does not serve up any helpful results:

To set up MMS [Picture Messaging]

1.Go to the 4 dots to access settings

2.Go to Settings --> Connectivity --> Access Points

3.Add Access Point.

[Connection Title]T-Mo MMS
[Bearer]GPRS
[Authentication]No auth
[APN]
Wap.voicestream.com

Then SAVE.

4. Go back to Connectivity, go to Internet Profiles

5. Add Profile.

[Title]T-Mo MMS
[Use Proxy]On
[Proxy Server Address]216.155.165.50
[Proxy Server Port]8080
[Access Point]T-Mo MMS

Then SAVE

6. Then exit out of everything and go to Messaging (either through the quick access on the main screen or go to Settings then Communicate)

7. Scroll to the very bottom of Messaging, select Settings

8. Select Multimedia Message --> Multi Msg Centre

9. Add New

[Title]T-Mo MMS
[MMSC URL]http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
[Internet Profile]T-Mo MMS

Then SAVE

Then after that, you should be able to send AND receive MMS.
