There are very few bands that I gush about. From what I recall, I only gush about 2 bands regularly: One is the Birthday Massacre, and the other is Dommin. In fact, I found about about Dommin after clicking around TBM'smyspace and saw that they were opening up for TBM. A visit to their myspace kept me on their page for weeks, probably inflating their listening stats massively as I went through all their available songs again and again for hours on end. I saw them live with TBM, and was hooked.
The band sounds like a gothy Elvis; a male, less ADHD Horror Pops; or an emoDanzig. I'm not a fan of emo, but the emo-ness is much more bearable for me if the lead singer isn't some suburban prepubescent male cutting himself and crying to sleep every night cuz he thinks he's misunderstood. That's just annoying. Heart-wrenching and bittersweet lyrics, guttural vocals dripping with anguish, combined with a haunting and simple melody, and you've got a band that screams Jane Eyre meshed with the English Patient and Frankenstein (the whole "monster-only-wants-to-be-loved part", not the re-animating dead bodies part). Being a closet goth who isn't obsessed with death [contradiction? Identity crisis?], this band hit me just about as hard TBM did. This band melts the music I want to write and sing and breathes their own life into it. All the minor chords, all the chord progressions, all the catchy melodies. Their music is like mine, but from a different dimension, which is probably why I like them so much. Their simple lyrics are somehow able to grasp distrust, lust, love, and fear by the throat and consume them in a passionate, melodic embrace.
Here's the video for their newest single, My Heart Your Hands.
Video's kinda eh. But hey, you can only do so much with a limited budget, and its an improvement to their first one. Their new tshirt is also kinda eh. I'm waiting for a nice one to come out before I commit $$ to a shirt I have to wear. Their CD is supposed to come out in August 2009, so I guess I'll have to find a hot topic to get that.
Can't wait to see them again if they come to Philly or DC. If I have to, I may go to NYC to watch them again.
